It’s been a long journey so far at Golf GameBook and the road ahead of us keeps getting more and more interesting. As the 2017 golfing season is well underway, I thought it would be fitting to send you all an overall update on what’s been going on at Golf GameBook headquarters.
As you all probably know, our 2016 season marked the introduction of the 3.0 version of Golf GameBook’s platform for iOS. It was a tough year, as we had to make the difficult decision on ramping down our previous Android offering as it wasn’t up to the standards we wanted. Throughout the later part of 2016, we made a conscious decision to build our overall service offering from scratch. Yes, we completely revamped our engine room, which can be comparable to a full swing change in mid-season.
Our ambition has always been to make a globally scalable platform and our underlying technical infrastructure plays a paramount role in enabling this to happen. We also realized that we had to have a scalable, cross-platform offering in place, if we wanted to survive as a company.
We’ve always been a company that’s “by golfers, for golfers”. Since the early days of establishing the company with my co-founder Kalle Vainola, we’ve always had “the golfer” at the soul of everything we do as an organization. However, we’ve also realized that in order for us to build a scalable and commercially viable ecosystem around this game we love so much, we’ve also had to evolve as a company. Evolution is tough. It’s forced us to unlearn things, which have held us back from unleashing our full potential. It’s also forced us to restructure our organization and fortify our overall competencies, especially on the commercial and technical sides of the business.
As we kicked off our 2017 season, we were all very excited about the upcoming re-introduction of our Android offering, as well as the introduction of our cross-platform service offering that will enable us to build and manage our product for both iOS and Android. The journey so far has been one of hard work, lots of practice sessions on the driving range, some great birdies as well as some unfortunate bogies along the way.
I’m delighted to say that we’ve now moved mountains on the technical side and we’re truly ready for global scalability. However, the downside of this transition has been that there’s not a whole lot of new features that are visible on the customer side (yet). I appreciate all the feedback we’ve been receiving on our latest product releases, both through social media as well as our customer support channels. The team has been working hard on ensuring that we get to a stage in which both, our Android and iOS offerings, are on par in terms of quality. Throughout the past weeks, we’ve made multiple product releases with continuous bug fixes and enhancements across both iOS and Android. This will remain our core focus over the upcoming weeks.
