2019 Wrap Up – and What’s New for 2020

Dear Golf GameBookers,

It’s time to wrap up the amazing golf season 2019. For Golf GameBook it was a year of growth, renewal and a bunch of great new features.

During the past few years we have rebuilt the whole app “under the hood”. It means it’s now faster, saving more of your battery and performing overall a lot better than before. This also allows us to boost up the development of new features and improvements. We have also received a lot of positive feedback on the app which makes us really happy! Now that we have a great foundation to build on, the next year will surely be filled with interesting updates to the app!

Let’s have a look at some of the features we introduced in 2019. We will also give you some clues on what we are building at the moment and launching in the upcoming months!

Official Handicap Rounds with Golf GameBook in Finland and Sweden

The very first new feature in 2019 was the possibility to play handicap rounds with Golf GameBook. We launched this feature in co-operation with the Finnish and Swedish Golf Federations. More than 120,000 HCP rounds were played, and the players improved their handicaps a lot during these rounds. The total drop in handicaps was 28 636 units! We hope that we’ll see even more handicap rounds and lower handicaps with the new World Handicap System in 2020!

Hole by Hole Statistics

We want to help our users to improve and better understand their game, and hole specific statistics are here to help you in both. With this feature you get to know on what holes you have performed at your best and on which holes you should probably re-think your strategy. You can quickly swipe it out at any point of your game. This has definitely been one of the most popular features among our Gold members.

Hole Notes

Hole Notes – also a Gold feature and basically a part of the hole statistics. You can write down notes for each hole before a tournament or practice round and remind yourself of the game plan. This is also a place to write down tips and ideas about your swing – check these during your round and play better!

Gold Challenges

The first ever Gold specific Challenge was featured by our ambassador Mikko Ilonen and was targeted to Gold members in Finland. Three lucky winners got to play with Mikko at Linna Golf Course, and what an amazing day they had! The day was all about skins, and it wasn’t Mikko who took the skins at the end of the day! We will be organizing global Gold Challenges during the 2020 season with great prizes, so stay tuned!

Course Reviews

No matter if you are booking a restaurant for dinner, a hotel to stay or a golf course to play – you want to know what people that have visited there before have experienced. That is why we added the possibility to give course reviews at the end of each round. Now, when planning your next round, you can easily check the current condition of a specific golf course.

Redesigned Game Setup + Player & Group management

In November we published the renewed game setup. It made creating games easier and quicker than before, while also improving the visual look.

We also completely redesigned the way you add players to the game and manage groups. From now on you can choose multiple players at the same time to your playing group and move players between the groups – simply by dragging and dropping players from one group to another.

In the future adding more than one group to a game is possible only for our Gold members. Only the game creator is required to have an active Gold membership.

New Challenge Leaderboard – Have some friendly competitions with your friends

In addition to the public Challenge leaderboard, you have now an additional leaderboard just for you and your friends. Follow the new leaderboard and see where you stand compared to your Golf GameBook friends.

What’s new for the upcoming months!

Could you guess what’s coming soon?

This is an amazing app and asking about rating and reviews is perfect.

  2. Christopher Mackie says:

Really not impressed that adding additional groups now requires a gold membership. This was one of the main reasons I used GameBook so will probably have to look at alternative apps.

    • Golf GameBook says:

Hi Christopher! Great to hear that you have liked this feature a lot. Did you know that you can have a free one month trial on Golf GameBook Gold. Next time you are out there on the course, give it a try and enjoy all the other Gold features as well. We really hope that you’ll give it a chance, it’s only approximately $2/month! Without our Gold members we couldn’t keep improving the app and bring out new features.

    germany language. !!!!!!!!!!

    • Golf GameBook says:

Hi Johann, we are currently working on translating the app to German and will have this option available soon 🙂

  4. James Ball says:

    Hi
Thanks for the new updates, are you planning to role out the handicap rounds to other countries once the world handicap system has been adopted?
One function that would be great is to be able to update stroke indexes on courses straight away where they are found to be incorrect. On a recent golf trip we had a problem with the course we were playing which meant we could not have an accurate leaderboard and so scores were incorrect . Thanks
    James

    • Golf GameBook says:

Hi James, currently we are unable to provide official handicap rounds and WHS calculations in countries where we don’t yet have co-operation with the local Golf Federation. We are looking for opportunities to expand this feature to other countries as well.

Thank you for the feed back regarding course updates, currently the best way is to contact our support team if you spot a course with false information. They will then update the course as soon as possible.

  5. Samuel Vergara says:

    Hello,
Since I posted all my games, is it possible to have a handicap certified index with GameBook?
Specially now that handicap is calculated in a different way as before…

    • Golf GameBook says:

Hi Samuel, thank you for commenting! We are currently looking into this matter and hoping to find a way to make this possible.

  6. Graham says:

Im really disappointed that “In the future adding more than one group to a game is possible only for our Gold members”.
This is a great function which I’ve used on several occasions and now you’ll take it away for Non Gold members. From my perspective this is not an improvement for 2020.

    • Golf GameBook says:

  7. Greg says:

Enjoy the app, but only disappointing thing is the fee$$ you charge when setting up more than one group……if I want to invite an extra group of friends, once, I don’t really want to pay $35…if it was a regular thing though, fair enough.

    • Golf GameBook says:

Hi Greg! Great to hear that you the app. Did you know that you can have a free one month trial on Golf GameBook Gold. Next time you are out there on the course, give it a try and enjoy all the other Gold features as well. We really hope that you’ll give it a chance, it’s only under $24/year. Without our Gold members we couldn’t keep improving the app and bring out new features.

  8. Ben says:

Totally understand the change to require a gold membership to set up multiple groups. I have been using GameBook for league event over the last 2 years and it has worked great. Even at $24/year it is way cheaper than the other league software solutions. Thank you for not requiring all players in the multiple groups to have a gold membership. This would have been a bit of a stretch for my league members.

    Keep up the great work!

    Ben

Loving the app……we use this for all our social
Golf playing a variety of formats. The stats are really useful for focusing on areas to work on

  10. Erol says:

Quick question: Is it better to comment and suggest improvements here, rather than at https://golfgamebook.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/community/topics?
(The ZenDesk appears to be… dead?)

Love the app, by the way! 🙂

    • Golf GameBook says:

      Hi Erol,

The best way to suggest improvements is to contact our customer support at support@golfgamebook.com! We are always happy to hear improvement suggestions from our users. Great to hear you love the app! 🙂

  11. Hej

  12. Maria says:

Am a bit confused by the revamped app. I usually play Stableford individual, not stroke play. Where do I get to choose this?

  13. Danny Kowalski says:

Have used the App last 2 years for our Ryder Cup guys trip. Can you use 2 different team formats per round? I. E. Team Scramble for front 9 and Greensome for back 9.

    • Golf GameBook says:

Hi, great to hear that! Yes you can. You just need to create those as separate 9 hole rounds under your tournament.

We played a scramble at Innisbrook. Bringing in the Side Games GameBook also allows you to keep track of side games, like closest to the pin and longest drive. During our round at Innisbrook, they had us set up for closest to the pin as well as longest drive.
