When did you begin golf?
I was 14 when I first played golf. Like most teenagers, I did not have any control and “Grip it and Rip it” was the norm.
Who inspired you to begin golf?
My dad encouraged me to take up the game. It would have been nice if he had given me a men’s set of clubs as I was teased for playing with a women’s set. Still the clubs worked and I was able to play without investing a lot in the beginning.
When did you realize that you are hooked on the game of golf?
The game changed when I started to practice. It’s much more fun having some kind of idea where the ball might go.
What are your other hobbies, apart from golf?
Travel and watching movies.
How did you hear about the app?
A member of our golf association suggested we try it out. From the start we were hooked. We absolutely love GameBook and would not play without it!
What is your favorite feature on GameBook?
The Leaderboard. I like knowing how everyone is scoring during the round. Plus I can keep up with friends when I get notifications they have started a round.
Who do you golf with most often?
I play weekly with members of the Memphis Golf Nuts Association. We have a great group of guys and keep things fresh by rotating between 15 courses in Tennessee & Mississippi. We are truly “nuts” and will play in heavy rain, sleet, snow, extreme cold/ heat, and near darkness.
The Golf Nuts
If you could select any three people in the world to golf with, who would they be?
Tiger, Phil, and Ernie. Back in their late 90’s form.
What is your all-time favorite golf course?
To play: Kapalua – The Plantation Course
To watch others play: Augusta National
Which course/ courses are on your Bucket list?
Augusta National and St. Andrews. We’re thinking of a group trip to play St. Andrews in 2018.
What is your goal/dream in golf?
I would love to score well while playing a dream course.
What’s in your golf bag?
Callaway woods, Taylor Made irons, Scotty Cameron Putter, laser rangefinder, cooling towel (gets hot in Tennessee), 5-hour energy bottles, and snacks for the round.
Which club is your absolute favorite in your golf bag?
I wish I could say my new Scotty Cameron Squareback. But, that would be a lie. I tend to purchase expensive putters so I’m less tempted to throw them off the planet after a missed 3 footer, which unfortunately happens 4 or 5 times a round. I believe good putting skips a generation, as my dad was a stellar putter. Odds are good that my little girl will be a boss on the greens.
Who is your idol in golf?
Kenny Perry, a current member of the Champions Tour. He played golf at my alma mater. I once played in a tournament with him and found him to be a down-to-earth guy, and one that gives back to his community.
Do you have a memory to share from the golf course?
Recently when playing in a scramble we were given the chance to move to a women’s tee if we wore a dress.
