My golfing friends + The fact that a 300 yd drive and a 1 inch putt each count as one stroke!
So many … golf road trips with my buddies all over the place … Cabot several times on Cape Breton Island in Nova Scotia is always a highlight … but to this day the best memory was early in my golfing days back in June 1996 at my home course at the time (Brudenell River) in Prince Edward Island, Canada on the par 3 #5. My best buddy hit his shot to within 3 feet, twirled his club, looked at me and said, «<Expletive> beat that Berrigan!». I proceeded with my 7-iron and boom! A one hop then rolled right into the cup for my first hole-in-one! The group ahead were jumping up and down and to this day my buddy has yet to congratulate me … he was so bent 🙂 !
Years later in September 2017 at the same hole playing with another good friend from Kelowna on a golf trip to PEI (World Champion curler Pat Ryan) I hit MY shot to within 3 feet and said to my playing partners, «Beat that boys!» Pat steps up and hits it to within 2 feet. WE BOTH MISSED our birdie putts! (no gimmies on birdie putts!) Karma is a B***h. Golf GameBook has allowed me to record these wonderful days!
My hockey buddies.
All the games in GGB are tons of fun and we rotate frequently with our group of 40. Within our 4some, you can’t beat 2Man teams with, low ball scoring 2 pts, high ball scoring 1 point, and bonus point for birdie on each hole. Press til you are happy! Having a 4 foot putt on holes 9 and 18 for the payday is the best (Well for one of the teams anyway!).
Travelling to visit my 3 daughters who are spread out across Canada, snowboarding in the winter or working on cars for our charity auto society. Going to as many comedy and music shows as possible!
Was tasked with job of finding a solution for our group to record our games, and even in the early days of GGB, it proved to be the most robust app we could find. Once we got our group signed up, the rest was easy!
Favourite part is not one singular feature. It is the seamless integration of all the things we want (or didn’t even know we wanted!) in one place for our golf outings. Live scoring, trash talk, stats, gps and on and on. As a league organizer, it is a massive timesaver. We use another app (TeamSnap) for scheduling and together they allow us as organizers a fast, efficient way to make our 2x+ weekly events that much more enjoyable. As a mid to large size league we are able to secure all our tee times from our chosen courses from April thru October, so effectively we can set up all of our games for the season before it even starts. GGB is super easy to edit and make changes on the fly so that is hugely appreciated. (The one thing that would make it perfect is integration with Golf Canada so handicaps are integrated automatically)
I was very fortunate to meet Mane and Mikko in the early days of GGB back in Toronto. What I quickly learned (actually already knew) is that Canadians and Finns are sister countries. We love Hockey, Golf and Beer (not necessarily in that order!). I was honoured to be an original GGB Ambassador and always ensured anyone new that I was paired up with on a course was aware of the benefits of using the app with their own respective groups. The Squad is just a continuation of that. My hurdle will be social media posting on external apps such as Instagram as privacy is a concern and I will want to ensure my playing partners are all ok with the public listings. Otherwise, I look forward to meeting and conversing with other Squad members to see what they are doing to enhance the golf experience with their friends.
